GLOBAL REPRESENTATIONS
GLOBAL & REGIONAL
ECOLOGICAL
SECTIONS
Much of our research as designers relies heavily on data and data representation in graphic form – hence why the infographic movement has had such a strong impact on landscape designers. Consider this movement in ecological infographics as a new form of language that is presented through the language of landscape architects. In the class we were instructed to design planting sections that correspond to eight different ecosystems. These ecosystems included: Arid, Alpine/arctic tundra, freshwater riparian, saltwater swamp/mangrove, coastal/marine, grassland/prairie, forest tropical/ temperate, and wetland. These sections that are graphicly displayed will include images and labels of the types of plants that thrive in this environment, soil types, water levels, and animal habitat they provide. These sections helped develop my digital representation skills, technical labeling and has played a major role in the success of these sections.
